Love Stories

“...let us love not only in words or in talk,

but let us put our love into action

and make it real.”

                   — 1 John 3:18

We like to share stories of love in action. They involve real people in our community faced with needs that may to them seem insurmountable.
Love INC SB is honored to be used by God to respond to these needs. Through your donations, we will continue to be available to do this. These stories are shared to help us remember the power of love . . . in the Name of Christ . . .

Mental health struggles are a real burden, but they are not a burden anyone should carry alone. That, however, is just what Mayra was doing when she called us. Recently, her son Emil, had been put in prison because he had been involved in a serious street fight. That alone was a lot for her to deal with. Then the pandemic stuck and lockups cut visits over Covid-19 fears. “I'm worried about my son”...

We received a call from Kathy, an 85 year old senior who was facing the difficult time of moving out of her home to live in a smaller apartment. Understandably, she was feeling overwhelmed and stressed. This move meant packing up many of her possessions which she would need to move to a local storage unit, since she couldn’t take them with her. She could manage the packing, but due to her financia...

With the donation of food from RHCC Food Drive, Love INC SB also helped Rosarion and her son Anthony. Rosarion lost her job because of COVID-19 and while she looks for a new job, she only has her unemployment check to live on.

It is almost next to impossible for some families to get through these uncertain times w...

With some of the bags of food that we recently received from the RHCC Food Drive, Love INC SB helped Martha and her son Juan. For now, the family’s only income is unemployment, so they were very happy and thankful when we delivered these food bags. Any food we’re able to distribute makes life a little more bearable for our hungry neighbors.

In August Rolling Hills Covenant Church (RHCC), one of our network churches, had a Food Drive. There was an outpouring of generosity from the members of their congregation that they were able to put together 385 bags of food for families in need! Then, even after hours of sorting, they had so many extra food item leftover, they filled EVEN MORE bags with these extra food items. And better yet, the...

We’re still here helping during the COVID-19 Stay-At-Home orders, and Maria was very happy when she called to hear the voice of Cecilia, our Clearinghouse Director, at the other end of the line. Maria is one of numerous desperate mothers who have called Love INC SB in need of diapers and wipes. This is a need we typically get calls for, but in this time of crisis, these calls for help have tripled...

We all know how devastating a fire can be and this was certainly the situation for Carol and her three children when they lost their home in a fire accident a few months ago. The fire not only forced them to move into a one bedroom apartment but also destroyed all their belongings. This left them with little money to purchase any school supplies or clothing. Carol turned to Harbor Christian Center...

Natalie is a single mother of two teenage girls. She was living in a bare bones apartment with little furniture and certainly no extras. She was in need of the basics: a bed, a sofa and a small microwave oven she could use to fix their simple dinners. Her church recommended that she call Love INC for help. After we did an intake to verify her needs, we started making calls to find her assistance.

When Rebecca, a young mother of three children, had to leave an abusive situation in an emergency, she moved into a low-income apartment with nothing but a mattress, kitchen table and chairs.

She was working hard to pay the landlord for the security deposit when her car broke down. Needing the car to remain employed, Rebecca found herself unable to keep up with the additional, unexpected bills.

When...
